Emirates has unveiled a striking upgrade to its Premium Economy cabin. The new Emirates Premium Economy seat now features an electric, full-height privacy screen. Emirates says it is the first seat of its kind anywhere in the world.
The screen rises between every pair of neighbouring seats. Passengers raise, lower and lock it using their own seat controls. The Emirates Premium Economy seat debuts on the airline’s newest Airbus A350-900 aircraft, announced on 3 September.

What the New Seat Actually Offers
Each seat measures 20 inches wide, with pitch stretching up to 39 inches. Emirates arranges the cabin seven-abreast, in a 2-3-2 layout across 28 seats. That configuration leaves just one true middle seat in every row.
The seat also reclines using a cradle-style motion. This keeps the seat within its own footprint rather than tilting into the row behind. A new leather headrest, called U-Dream and built by Safran Seats, rounds out the comfort upgrade. Its adjustable wings support the head and neck from several angles.

Small Details, Bigger Comfort
Wireless charging arrives in Emirates Premium Economy for the first time. Every seat also gets USB-C power alongside it. A redesigned tray table now includes a built-in phone holder too.
Entertainment gets an upgrade as well. Each seat comes with a 13.3-inch 4K HDR touchscreen. New aircraft will also add extra exterior camera views for passengers to enjoy during takeoff and landing.

A Genuine First, With Some Context
Emirates calls this the world’s first electrically powered Premium Economy seat. The privacy screen itself does appear to be a genuine industry first. However, Japan Airlines already introduced electric reclining in Premium Economy back in 2023.
Even so, Emirates brings something distinct to the category here. No other airline currently offers a powered, full-height divider between Premium Economy seats. That detail alone sets this product apart from cabins flown by its closest rivals.

Part of a Wider Gulf Rivalry
This launch lands amid fierce competition between the Gulf’s big three carriers. Emirates remains the only one of the three currently offering Premium Economy at all. Both Qatar Airways and Etihad have yet to introduce a dedicated cabin of their own.
Emirates first launched Premium Economy back in 2022. The cabin has already picked up several industry awards since then, including recognition at the Business Traveller Middle East Awards. This new seat pushes that advantage further still.
Why It Matters for Travellers
Emirates operates 73 A350s on order, with 19 already flying by March 2026. Every future delivery will carry this new Premium Economy seat as standard. That means the upgrade will scale quickly across Emirates’ growing network.
For travellers, the appeal is straightforward. Privacy has become a genuine selling point between Economy and Business Class. The Emirates Premium Economy seat now offers a level of control once reserved for pricier cabins altogether.
