Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) crossed the three-million passenger mark on 1 September. The airport began commercial operations on 25 December 2025, reaching the milestone in less than nine months.
NMIA has handled around 22,500 commercial flights since its opening. Its network has also grown from 13 destinations at launch to 46 destinations. This gives travellers across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region more connections across India and overseas.
The milestone reflects the airport’s rapid growth since opening. NMIA is also adding capacity to the region’s aviation network and creating another major gateway for Western India.
Expanding Connectivity Across India
The airport started international services within its first 200 days. Abu Dhabi became its first international connection, marking an important step in its network growth.
NMIA will also add six domestic destinations: Udaipur, Jodhpur, Ranchi, Darbhanga, Guwahati and Sindhudurg. These routes will connect Navi Mumbai with more cities across India and support growing demand from the region.
The airport also plans to add new airlines and international routes in November, ahead of the winter schedule. This will further broaden its network in the coming months.

A Focus on Passenger Experience
NMIA has also focused on improving the passenger experience. In August, the airport recorded a 94 per cent average last-bag delivery rate. The final checked bag reached the carousel within 30 minutes on most flights.
The airport is developing its cargo operations alongside passenger services. It has also positioned operational reliability and service standards as key priorities as traffic continues to grow.
Planning for Long-Term Growth
NMIA can handle up to 20 million passengers annually in its first phase. Its planned expansion will eventually take capacity to 90 million passengers.
With a growing route network, rising passenger numbers and expanding cargo operations, the airport is emerging as an important aviation gateway for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Its continued expansion will give travellers more choice while adding significant new capacity to Mumbai’s wider aviation ecosystem.
