World’s 50 Best Hotels has unveiled its extended list for 2026. The ranking covers properties ranked from 51st to 100th. World’s 50 Best Hotels will announce its full top 50 list on 15 September in Paris.
More than 800 anonymous experts voted to compile the list. Hoteliers, travel journalists, educators and experienced luxury travellers all took part. World’s 50 Best Hotels says the extended ranking offers a fuller picture of global hospitality. The list spans 23 territories and 40 cities in total.
Two Indian Hotels Make the Cut
India features twice on this year’s extended list. The Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur enters at number 98. The Johri, an independent hotel in Jaipur, lands at number 94.
Both properties mark a strong showing for Indian hospitality on a global stage. The Oberoi Udaivilas appears on the list for the first time this year. Its entry places Rajasthan firmly on the world’s luxury hotel map.

Asia Leads the Extended Ranking
Asia dominates the 51-100 list with 20 hotels ranked overall. Japan alone contributes seven properties to that total. Janu Tokyo ranks highest among them at number 52.
Park Hyatt Tokyo follows closely at 53. The Okura and Palace Hotel Tokyo also feature, at 69 and 73. Waldorf Astoria Osaka makes a new entry as 89th on the list.
Hong Kong places two hotels on the list too. Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong ranks at number 59. Four Seasons Hong Kong follows at 86. Mainland China adds two new entries as well, with Mandarin Oriental Shenzhen at 90 and The Peninsula Shanghai at 99.

Europe Leans Heavily on Italy
Europe places 16 hotels on the extended list this year. Italy leads that group with nine properties overall. Il San Pietro di Positano ranks as Italy’s highest new entry, at number 58.
La Réserve Paris tops the entire extended list. It re-enters this year placing 51st. France also adds two new names, with Ritz Paris at 72 and Carlton Cannes at 80, respectively.

New York Leads North America
Three New York hotels feature on this year’s list. The Fifth Avenue Hotel ranks highest among them, at number 78. It also won this year’s American Express Travel One to Watch Award.
Aman New York follows at 87, with The Greenwich Hotel completing New York’s trio at 92. Mexico adds three further hotels, led by Hotel Esencia at the 64th rank.

What Comes Next
The full World’s 50 Best Hotels ranking arrives on 15 September. An awards ceremony will mark the occasion at Les Salles du Carrousel in Paris. The event will also stream live on YouTube from 8 pm Paris time.
Faye Huggett, Director of Community for World’s 50 Best Hotels, said the extended list broadens the spotlight considerably. She added that it captures the people behind these hotels, as well as the properties themselves.
World’s 50 Best Hotels now has two weeks left before its biggest announcement of the year. For India, this year’s extended list already offers something to celebrate.
