The deal introduces the brand’s first Sanctuary concept anywhere in its portfolio. The resort will launch later this year as The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary.
A Destination Built for Slow Luxury
Coorg sits within the Western Ghats, close to both Bengaluru and Mangaluru. Coffee estates, mist-laden hills and Kodava heritage define the region’s appeal. Consistently high air quality adds to its pull for discerning global travellers.
The IGBC Platinum-certified resort will eventually grow to 90 villas. Facilities include four dining venues, a 27,000 sq ft wellness centre and a seven-acre lake. A private helipad and a four-bedroom presidential villa round out the offering.

Leadership on the Acquisition
CEO Anuraag Bhatnagar called the deal both a milestone and an evolution for the brand. He said The Leela invests specifically in destinations with cultural and ecological value.
Bhatnagar added that Coorg strengthens the brand’s presence across South India. He described the resort as a rare synthesis of wilderness, wellness and Indian luxury.
Part of a Bigger Expansion Push
The Leela now operates 15 properties spanning more than 4,160 rooms globally. Nine additional hotels are in the pipeline across Agra, Bandhavgarh, Mumbai and Sikkim. The brand also recently entered Jaisalmer and took a stake in a Dubai property.
Forty years in, The Leela isn’t just adding hotels anymore. It’s building an entirely new category for itself.
