GOL Linhas Aéreas has officially entered the long-haul market with a new international route. The Brazilian carrier launched nonstop flights between Rio de Janeiro and New York. Inaugural flights touched down on July 8 and July 9, respectively. Ribbon-cutting ceremonies marked the occasion at both Galeão and JFK airports.
A Historic Shift for a Short-Haul Carrier
GOL Linhas Aéreas has spent 25 years flying an all-Boeing 737 domestic network. Entering the long-haul market required a completely different operational approach. The airline turned to sister carrier Wamos Air for widebody support. A wet-leased Airbus A330-200 currently operates the new route on GOL Linhas Aéreas’s behalf.
Three Weekly Flights Connect Two Major Cities
The service runs three times weekly aboard the leased Airbus A330 aircraft. Flights depart Rio on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays each week. Return flights from New York operate on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The route currently operates as a seasonal service, running until 22 October 2026. Continuous, year-round operation is scheduled to resume from March 2027.

Premium Cabin and Culinary Partnership
GOL Linhas Aéreas partnered with two-Michelin-starred chef Felipe Bronze for its premium dining menu. Business INSIGNIA class offers lie-flat seats and a 16-inch entertainment screen. The airline expects its own Airbus A330-900neo aircraft to arrive later this year. Five widebody jets leased from Avolon will eventually support the airline’s long-haul ambitions.
Expanding Beyond New York
GOL Linhas Aéreas also announced new routes from Rio de Janeiro to Lisbon, Paris and Orlando. These additions signal a broader shift towards international widebody operations. The airline now ranks fourth in the competitive Brazil-US travel corridor. For more information, visit voegol.com.br.
