IndiGo has launched new flight services connecting Vijayawada with Varanasi and Kolkata. The airline began operations on 13 August 2026. The new service operates three days a week, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu inaugurated the service at Vijayawada International Airport. The launch comes as Andhra Pradesh strengthens its regional aviation network and prepares for further route expansion.
The new service links Vijayawada, Varanasi and Kolkata on the same flight. Flight 6E6501 leaves Kolkata at 2:10pm and reaches Varanasi at 3:55pm. It then continues to Vijayawada, arriving at 5:50pm. The return service, flight 6E6502, leaves Vijayawada at 6:20pm. It reaches Varanasi at 8:15pm before continuing to Kolkata at 10:15pm.

Supporting Tourism and Business Travel
The new Vijayawada to Varanasi flights will give travellers a direct air link between Andhra Pradesh and the important religious destination. Varanasi attracts leisure and pilgrimage travellers throughout the year. The Kolkata connection also strengthens access to eastern India. Better connectivity can support tourism, business travel and movement between the three markets. The strong passenger response at the launch, points to the growing demand for more regional connections.

More Routes Could Follow
The new routes form part of wider plans to expand Vijayawada’s air network. Officials have indicated that the city could gain additional services to Pune, Ahmedabad and Cochin. Local representatives have also pushed for more international connectivity, including flights to Dubai. These additions could further strengthen Vijayawada’s role as an important aviation hub for Andhra Pradesh.
